Catching My Breath: A Quieter September and a Collab I Can't Stop Thinking About

There's a particular kind of relief that only comes after a packed season — the kind where you finally exhale and realize your hands aren't shaking from caffeine and deadlines anymore. That's where I am right now. For the first time in what feels like months, I have actual breathing room, and I intend to enjoy every minute of it.

September is shaping up to be blessedly light. Just one event on the calendar: the Maine Paranormal and Horror Convention. One event. I keep saying it like I don't believe it myself. After a summer of back-to-back shows, having a single date circled on the calendar feels like a gift I didn't know I needed. It means I get to actually be at the convention instead of just surviving it — time to talk with people, wander the other vendor tables, and remember why I love this community in the first place.

But "quiet" doesn't mean "idle." The downtime has opened up space for something I'm genuinely excited about: a collaboration with Jeff's Traveling Boards of Wonders. We're teaming up to create a set of talking boards for the Warren Museum, built from wood sourced right from the museum's own property.

There's something fitting about that. These boards are meant to be vessels for stories, for questions, for whatever lingers between the every day and the unexplained. Building them from wood tied to the museum's own grounds means the material carries the museum's history into the piece before a single word is ever spelled out on the surface. It's not just lumber — it's provenance.

I'll be sharing more as the work takes shape: the collaboration process with Jeff, and eventually the finished boards making their way onto the museum floor. For now, though, I'm just enjoying the rare luxury of a slow month, one event on the calendar, and a project I actually get to watch come together.

More soon.
